Everything new and important
Class B with key number 197
The simple and fast driving licence for manual and automatic transmissions
On 1.4.21, class B was replaced by the easier-to-obtain class B with code number 197 (B197).
You are allowed to drive cars with manual and automatic gearboxes in Austria and abroad without any restrictions.
Your driving training and test will take place on a car with automatic transmission. This makes your test much easier and reduces the number of driving hours you need.
The training for B197 does not take longer than for class B, because you need fewer driving hours due to the automatic transmission training.
A short driver training course of 450 minutes is integrated into your driving training. This qualifies you to drive cars with manual transmissions.
After the driver training course, you will take a short test drive with your driving instructor.
If you would also like to obtain a driving licence class BE, C or D after the car driving licence, we recommend class B.
