Duration of training

For classes B78, B197 and B, the shortest possible duration to complete the full theoretical instruction, with intensive participation, is 5 weeks.
A longer period is possible at any time.
You can take driving lessons even if you have not yet taken part in theory lessons.
For classes B78, B197 and B, the shortest possible duration to complete the full practical training, with intensive participation and an average number of required driving lessons, is 2 weeks. A longer period is possible at any time.

While your exam authorization is being processed by the driver licensing authority, you are already allowed to start the theoretical lessons and your driving appointments (driving lessons).
From the time you apply for your exam authorization (driver’s license application) at the driver licensing authority until your practical exam, it takes approximately 14–20 weeks:

- approx. 8–12 weeks processing time by the driver licensing authority to issue your exam authorization

- approx. 2 weeks advance time to book your theoretical exam at the TÜV Süd exam center

- approx. 4–6 weeks advance time to book your practical exam at the TÜV Süd exam center. The practical exam may be taken no earlier than 2 weeks after the theoretical exam.
