Driver equipment advice

DRIVER'S EQUIPMENT DURING THE DRIVING LESSON and the exam

Your instructor may only start the lesson if you are wearing the following rider equipment. This must be certified as motorcycle protective clothing. However, it does not have to meet any specific standard (except for the helmet).

The rider equipment is mandatory for all two-wheeler classes A, A2, A1, AM, B196 during the driving lesson and exam ride.

 

  • In-ear headphones with 3.5 mm jack plug connection (standard headphones for smartphones) for communication system. Communication system is provided by your driving school.
     
  • Full-face helmet or jet helmet (min. ECE standard 22.05). We recommend an intergal helmet.
     
  • Motorcycle trousers with protectors or motorcycle jeans with protectors
     
  • Motorcycle jacket with protectors
     
  • Back protector, if not integrated in the motorcycle jacket. Can be borrowed from us free of charge.
     
  • Motorcycle gloves
     
  • Motorcycle boots or motorcycle sneakers
     
  • Optional water bottle for hot days. Can be stowed away by your instructor during the training ride.
     
  • Optional rain cover if your riding equipment is not waterproof. Can be borrowed from us free of charge.

 

A motorcycle jacket and motorcycle trousers can be borrowed from us free of charge, subject to availability. This motorcycle jacket and motorcycle trousers are then only available to you during your training.

Please check availability at our location and try on the motorcycle jacket and motorcycle trousers approx. 2 weeks before your first motorcycle driving lesson.

After your training, please wash the jacket and trousers on a 30 degree gentle cycle, do not tumble dry and return them to us. Thank you.

Tips for your comfortable rider equipment

With the following tips, we would like to help you choose your own rider equipment.

The tips are not primarily about safety, but about comfort.

For us, it goes without saying that your chosen riding gear is safe and meets all the required protectors and test standards.

Our following tips should help you, among other things, to ensure that your riding gear is adapted to the temperature and is therefore comfortable to wear.

Spring/autumn (approx. 10 - 25°)

Full-face helmet

  • Integrated sun visor. This means you don't need sunglasses and can simply slide the sun visor upwards in the tunnel.
     
  • Closable ventilation at the front of the helmet with venting at the back of the helmet. Without a vent at the back of the helmet, effective ventilation is not guaranteed as there is no "draught".
     
  • Ventilation on chin section
     
  • Double visor. This is the most effective way to prevent fogging.
     
  • A flip-up helmet is most comfortable for spectacle wearers, as the goggles are very easy to put on when the helmet is flipped up.
     
  • Removable and washable inner lining.
     
  • Optional cut-outs in the ear area to install speakers for a sound and communication system.

Gloves

  • Waterproof and windproof, breathable
     
  • The inner lining of the glove must not be pulled out when you take it off. If this happens, you will have great difficulty putting the glove back on.
     
  • Plastic or similar protector on the knuckles.

Jacket

  • Water- and windproof, breathable
     
  • Removable lining
     
  • Long (approx. 20-30 cm) waterproof ventilation zips at the front and back of the torso area. Only then will there be effective ventilation. If the zips are only about 10 cm long, there is not enough ventilation.
     
  • Choose a size that allows you to put a jumper underneath.
     
  • Back protector integrated in the jacket or extra.

Trousers

  • Waterproof and windproof, breathable
     
  • Removable inner lining
     
  • Longer (approx. 20 cm) ventilation zips on the side of the thigh. Not essential but comfortable when the temperature rises. Short ventilation zips at the front of the thigh do not provide ventilation, as the air only hits the thigh selectively and cannot distribute itself sufficiently throughout the trousers.

Boots

  • Waterproof and windproof, breathable
     
  • To prevent water and wind from getting between the motorbike trousers and the boots, the height of the boot should reach about the middle of the lower leg. A boot that only goes to just above the ankle is too short.

Kidney belt

  • Only necessary if you are very sensitive to shock to the kidneys.

  • Small ventilation holes between the fingers and on the backhand or other air-permeable inserts.

Jacket

  • Without lining
     
  • Large mesh inserts or very long (approx. 20-30 cm) ventilation zips at the front and back of the arms and torso.
     
  • If possible, no black colour, as it heats up too much. If you do want the colour black, the rider's gear should have a special coating on the material which does not heat up so much in the sun.
     
  • Back protector integrated in the jacket or extra.
     
  • Optional windproof overjacket. Then you can still use the motorbike jacket when it gets cooler.

Trousers

  • Without lining
     
  • Breathable motorbike jeans
     
  • Motorbike trousers with large mesh inserts or very long (approx. 20 - 30 cm) ventilation zips on the side of the thighs
     
  • If possible, no black colour, as it heats up too much. If you do want the colour black, the rider's gear should have a special coating on the material which does not heat up so much in the sun.

Boots/ motorbike sneakers

  • Air-permeable motorbike trainers up to just above the ankle or motorbike boots see above.

Rainwear

  • Waterproof and windproof rainwear that is breathable above the optional.
     
  • Rain inserts worn under the motorbike jacket are not so suitable as the motorbike jacket will soak up water.
