What you need for your motorcycle lessons, what you can borrow from us for free and what to look for when buying – for every season.

What you need for your motorcycle lessons

Safety first: for all motorcycle and two-wheeler classes (A, A2, A1, AM, B196), full protective gear is mandatory – in lessons as well as in the exam. Only when everything fits can you get started.

The gear must be certified as motorcycle protective clothing. A specific standard only applies to the helmet (at least ECE 22.05). We recommend a full-face helmet.

Mandatory gear:

  • Helmet
  • Jacket
  • Trousers
  • Gloves
  • Boots or motorcycle sneakers
  • In-ear headphones with a 3.5 mm jack (standard smartphone headphones) for our communication system – the system itself is provided by the driving school.

Optional:

  • Water bottle for hot days – your driving instructor can stow it during the ride.
  • Rain gear if your equipment is not waterproof – you can borrow it from us free of charge.

Borrow jacket, trousers and back protector for free

No need to invest: you can borrow a motorcycle jacket and trousers from us free of charge – depending on availability at your location. They are reserved for you for the duration of your training.

Come by about 2 weeks before your first lesson to try everything on and secure availability.

After your training: please wash jacket and trousers on a gentle cycle at 30 °C, do not tumble dry and bring them back clean. Thank you!

Our tips for spring and autumn (approx. 10–25 °C)

Safety is a given – here it is about something that is often underestimated: comfort. If you are comfortably dressed, you ride more relaxed and focused.

Full-face helmet

  • Integrated sun visor – you do not need sunglasses and can simply push it up in a tunnel.
  • Closable vents at the front with exhaust vents at the back. Without rear vents there is no airflow and therefore no effective ventilation.
  • Ventilation at the chin guard
  • Double-glazed (Pinlock) visor – the most effective way to prevent fogging
  • A flip-up helmet is the most comfortable for glasses wearers, as glasses are easy to put on with the helmet flipped up.
  • Removable, washable lining
  • Optional: recesses in the ear area for speakers of a communication system

Gloves

  • Waterproof, windproof and breathable
  • The lining must not pull out when you take them off – otherwise it is hard to get the glove back on.
  • Hard-shell knuckle protectors

Jacket

  • Waterproof, windproof and breathable
  • Removable lining
  • Long (approx. 20–30 cm) waterproof ventilation zips at the front and back of the torso. Zips of only about 10 cm are not enough for effective ventilation.
  • Choose a size that still fits a jumper underneath.
  • Back protector integrated in the jacket or separate

Trousers

  • Waterproof, windproof and breathable
  • Removable lining
  • Longer (approx. 20 cm) ventilation zips on the side of the thigh – not essential, but pleasant when it gets warmer. Short zips at the front of the thigh hardly ventilate.

Boots

  • Waterproof, windproof and breathable
  • The boot should reach about the middle of your lower leg so that no water or wind gets between trousers and boot. A boot just above the ankle is too short.

Kidney belt

  • Only needed if you are very sensitive to vibrations in the kidney area.
  • With a well-fitting motorcycle jacket you usually do not get a draught on your kidneys.

Our tips for summer (from approx. 25 °C)

Full-face helmet

Gloves

  • Pure leather without textile lining – the lining prevents effective ventilation.
  • Hard-shell knuckle protectors
  • Small ventilation holes between the fingers and on the back of the hand, or other breathable inserts

Jacket

  • Without lining
  • Large mesh inserts or very long (approx. 20–30 cm) ventilation zips at the front and back of arms and torso
  • Preferably not black, as it heats up a lot – or with a special coating that warms up less in the sun.
  • Back protector integrated in the jacket or separate
  • Optional windproof over-jacket – so you can still use the jacket when it gets cooler.

Trousers

  • Without lining
  • Breathable motorcycle jeans
  • Or motorcycle trousers with large mesh inserts or very long (approx. 20–30 cm) ventilation zips on the side of the thighs
  • Preferably not black, as it heats up a lot – or with a special coating that warms up less in the sun.

Boots or motorcycle sneakers

  • Breathable motorcycle sneakers reaching just above the ankle – or motorcycle boots as described above

Rain gear

  • Waterproof and windproof rain gear worn over your motorcycle clothing – optionally breathable
  • Rain inserts under the motorcycle jacket are less suitable, as the jacket then soaks up water.

Ich hab bei Rausch meinen Motorradführerschein gemacht und mich von der ersten Sekunde super aufgehoben gefühlt.
