How long are you allowed to drive in Germany with your foreign driving licence?

  • Your entitlement to drive with your foreign driving licence (non-EU driving licences) expires already 6 months after the first registration in Germany.
     
  • In order to continue driving in Germany after that, you must have your foreign driving licence converted into a German driving licence.
     
  • You have an unlimited amount of time for this conversion.

THESE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS YOU NEED TO MEET

  • Start of training Minimum age 17,5 years -> issue of driving licence Minimum age 18 years
     
  • Foreign driving licence must be accepted by the driving licence office Munich (Fahrerlaubnisbehörde):

    1.  Your foreign driving licence must be currently valid.

    2.  At the time your foreign driving licence was issued, you had been resident in the issuing country for more than 6 months.

    3.  You did not have a registered place of residence in Germany at the time your foreign driving licence was issued.

    4.  If you have renewed your foreign driving licence, you were not allowed to have a registered place of residence in Germany at the time of renewal. As a rule, the date of issue on the driving licence is decisive.
     
  • Application driving license
     
  • Whether a theory and/or practical exam is required, you can find out on the country list of the driver´s license office Munich or by contacting our customer service.
     
  • Individual number of training lessons in the city and special lessons on the motorway, until you are ready for your exam – no legally required minimum.
     
  • Suitable protective riding gear required for lessons.
     
  • No theory lessons required.

THESE ARE THE VEHICLES YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DRIVE

Motorbikes with

  • no restriction on power (hp) or engine capacity
     
  • engine capacity of more than 50 ccm or
     
  • maximum design speed of more than 45 km/h

Seat height

To ensure safe training, our learner drivers must be able to reach the road with at least both balls of their feet.

For a safe stand on the road, not only the body height and seat height of the motorbike are responsible, but also the seat width, the leg length and the thigh circumference.

Arrange an individual seat test at the driving school to find your suitable training motorbike.

Training vehicles

For your safety and fun in training, you will ride on current models. Professional maintenance of our vehicles is a matter of course.

Under locations you will find the following training vehicles, which are offered at the respective driving school.

  • BMW F 800 GS ABS
     
  • Honda CB 650 F ABS
     
  • Kawasaki ER6N ABS
     
  • Yamaha MT07 ABS

Minimum requirements for training vehicle

  • Minimum engine capacity 595 cc
     
  • Minimum engine power 50kW
     
  • Power to weight ratio at least (for electric motor) 0.25 kW/kg
     
  • Unladen weight min. 175 kg

Fahrschule Rausch offers, based on these characteristics, the lowest and lightest training motorbikes currently available:
e.g. Yamaha MT07 for persons with a height of at least 1.64 m lowered chassis, narrow and low seat, seat height 75 cm, weight 180 kg ready to ride.

Own vehicle

You can also use your own motorcycle/scooter for training.

It must meet the minimum requirements and you need a confirmation from your insurance company. This is usually always issued.

THEORY LESSONS ARE NOT MANDATORY – BUT IT'S FREE FOR YOU

Theory lessons are not required when converting a foreign driving licence.

However, you are still welcome to take part free of charge.

Theoretical lessons

What to expect in your driving lessons

Your instructor will accompany you with a radio and your own motorbike.

Training lesson

  • In the training lessons, you practise basic driving tasks and driving within the city with all traffic rules and situations.
     
  • There is no statutory minimum number of practice drives. The number varies depending on the ability level of the learner driver.
     
  • We recommend the following number of driving appointments so that your driving instructor can show you all the traffic rules relevant to the examination:

    - approx. 5 appointments of 90 minutes each training lessons if you already have a lot of experience driving in a big German city and on German motorways

    - approx. 10 appointments of 90 minutes each training lessons if you have no experience of driving in a big German city and on German motorways

Special lesson

  • In a special lesson, you train to drive outside the city on the motorway.
     
  • A statutory minimum number of special trips is not prescribed.
     
  • The exam also involves driving on the motorway.
     
  • We therefore recommend driving approx. 1 motorway lesson.
