Class B with keynumber 96

Your prerequisites

  • Start of training Minimum age 17,5 years -> issue of driving licence Minimum age 18 years
  • Driving license class B / B78 / B197
  • Theoretical and practical driver training, the successful completion must be confirmed by your driving instructor with a certificate of participation
  • An examination is not required
  • Application driving license must be submitted after the driver training course
  • The driver training for the key number 96 can take place simultaneously with the training for class B.

Your vehicle

For your safety and fun in training, you drive on top-equipped vehicles of the latest models. Professional maintenance and cleanliness of our vehicles is a matter of course.

Your training may also take place on a car with an automatic transmission.

With driving licence categories B197 and B96, you can also tow the trailer with a car with manual transmission.

The B197 category allows you to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles, even though the test was taken on an automatic vehicle. This applies as long as you have completed the prescribed 10 driving hours on a manual transmission vehicle.

Key number 96 (B96) is an extension of category B, which allows you to tow heavier trailers. It is not a separate test and is therefore not subject to the restriction on automatic vehicles.

This means that you can drive both manual and automatic vehicles with your combination of B197 and B96 and therefore also tow heavier trailers within the B96 limits.

Vehicle combination from:

  • a motor vehicle with max. 3500 kg total weight and
  • a trailer over 750 kg permissible total mass, provided that the permissible total mass of the vehicle combination (towing vehicle + trailer) is more than 3500 kg, but only max. Is 4250 kg

Examples of a vehicle combination:

  • 2050 kg (e.g. BMW Touring 320d) + 1800 kg (e.g. horse trailer) = 3850 kg
  • 2145 kg (e.g. BMW X1 20d) + 2000 kg (Horse trailer) = 4145 kg

With class B with key number 96 you can drive these vehicle combinations. Not with class B!

Your driving lesson

The practical driver training consists of at least 6 training lessons of 45 minutes each.

Training lesson

This practical driver training course lasts 210 minutes. You will need 1-2 driving appointments for this.

You will practise coupling and uncoupling, reversing on a practice area and driving in the city.

Special lesson

Special lessons are not mandatory.
