Language for Driving Lessons and Exam

Driving lessons and the practical exam require a minimum German language level of A2 (CEFR) – even if your instructor speaks one of the languages listed below. The practical exam is conducted in German only.

How to book your driving appointments

  • You may take driving lessons even if you have not yet attended theory lessons.
     
  • For efficient training, we recommend at least 2 driving appointments per week.
     
  • Request your driving appointments with your FAHREN LERNEN app.

Town, Country Roads & Motorway – your training areas

  • Driving licence training is divided into 2 training areas:

    - Training lessons (basic training) within built-up areas

    - Special lessons outside built-up areas
     
  • At the end of a training area, your driving instructor will carry out a progress check to determine whether the learning objectives (exam readiness) have been achieved.
     
  • Before your practical exam can be scheduled, your driving instructor must be confident in your exam readiness across all training areas.

 

Training lesson

  • In the training lessons, you will practise all basic driving tasks and driving within the city with all traffic rules and situations.
     
  • The number of training lessons is not specified by the driving school training regulations and therefore depends on the student’s individual level of training. An exact forecast of the number of training lessons required to achieve exam readiness cannot be made at the beginning of the training.
     
  • The first training lessons take place on a practice area. The practice area is located near the driving school.

Special lesson

  • In the special lessons (also known as statutory compulsory lessons), you only train to drive outside the city on country roads, motorways and at dusk.
     
  • This duration is specified by law.
     
  • The special lessons must be completed at the end of your training.

Your Driver Training Process

  1. Drive all modules on the drive easy simulator. Only class B197, B78, B.
     
  2. Drive an individual number of training lessons until you are ready to take the exam in a built-up area.
     
  3. Your driving instructor will carry out a progress check with you within a built-up area.

    -> learning objectives (exam readiness) achieved -> continue with point 4

    -> learning objectives (exam readiness) not achieved -> further training lessons and new progress check
     
  4. Drive the special lessons (if required)
     
  5. Your driving instructor must be convinced that you are still ready for the exam within a built-up area. If necessary, he will carry out another progress check.
     
  6. Consider taking some additional training lessons to get back to exam readiness.
     
  7. Drive your practical exam

 


According to the learner driver training regulations, the sequence is specified in the training plan.

Tips for an efficient driving training

  • To help you reach your goal in as few driving lessons as possible, we recommend familiarising yourself with your e-book before your lessons and working through the most important traffic situations in theory. We've put together the most relevant lessons for you below.
     
  • At the beginning of your training, use the FAHREN LERNEN app to request all the driving appointments we recommend in full.
     
  • Drive regularly at least 1 - 2 driving appointments per week.
     
  • Train on our drive easy driving simulator. Only class B197, B78 and class B.
     
  • Regularly ask your driving instructor whether your scheduled driving lessons are sufficient to reach exam readiness.
     
  • Work with your e-book.
     
  • Train all recurring action sequences with the mental audio training.
     
  • Follow the theory lessons attentively and then prepare them in your e-book and workbook.
     
  • Concentrate on your work during the driving appointments.
