Driving training key number 197

• Motor vehicles up to 3,500 kg permissible total weight with automatic or manual transmission
• also with a trailer up to max. 750 kg permissible total weight, or
• with a trailer over 750 kg permissible total weight, provided the combined permissible total weight of towing vehicle and trailer does not exceed 3,500 kg

For larger trailers we also recommend the driver training class B with key number 96 (no exam) or class BE.

• Driving licence class B78
• Minimum age for the licence: 18 years. You may start the driver training 6 months earlier.
• 5 Driving Appointments (90 min. each) of practical driver training in a vehicle with manual transmission – 450 minutes in total, required by law
• 1 test drive in and out of town with your driving instructor in a vehicle with manual transmission
• No theory exam and no practical exam

1. You complete the 5 Driving Appointments (90 min. each) in a vehicle with manual transmission. The first drives take place on a practice area near the driving school, then you practise in the city.
2. At the end you complete a test drive. Your driving instructor assesses whether you can drive the vehicle safely, responsibly and in an environmentally conscious way – no examiner, no official exam.
3. Afterwards your driving instructor gives you the certificate of manual transmission competence (Schaltkompetenznachweis).
4. With this certificate you submit an application for a driving licence to your driving licence authority and have key number 197 entered in your licence.
